I love being a portrait photographer, but first and foremost I am a mom. Regardless how much my heart is filled with joy in capturing incredible moments between my client families, it doesn’t even touch the wonder and awe I feel at being trusted to be “mom” to my two children.
Yet sometimes I take the role of “mom” for granted and allow time to tick by without appreciating the gradual growth and change in my children. I get caught up in the day to day busy and forget to reflect on the blessings I’ve been given.
Then one day….BAM! Something happens that makes it crystal clear that time is marching on and my babies are growing up!
One of these revelation moments happened just a few weeks ago as my oldest had braces put on. He still has baby teeth to lose, how is it possible he’s old enough for braces, one of those distinct adolescent milestones that I had to endure and now so must he??? I tell you in a matter of an hour my little guy went from being my baby boy in my mommy lens to a growing up 4th grader. Oh the pain in my mommy-heart!
But then….the cuteness of him in braces won me over and I took a few steadying breaths and adjusted to our new normal.
