Our monthly blog circle theme this month was “Beautiful Ugly” and my images come courtesy of my Smartphone. Yes you read that right, life has been so busy around here lately that the big camera has been left at home as our family has been on the go and keeping track of life’s precious moments with the new smartphones we purchased in April.
Some may see this painted, stained, chewed up stuffed monkey as an ugly, torn up toy worthy of the trash. But to my 5 year old daughter this is “Baby Monkey”, her well-loved, treasured lovey that she MUST sleep with every night and have with her at most all times. That yellow stain you see over the eye? A remnant from painting with my daughter during preschool that morning. Those torn up hands and ear? Proof of the oral comfort given during times of anxiety, sadness or weariness. The music no longer plays when you pull it’s tail and finding time to sneak it away for a “bath” in the washing machine is difficult, but this monkey is a beauty in the eyes of it’s loving beholder.
This next image I captured on a recent walk along the river trail. I was struck by this random concrete tower in the middle of a field of flowers. It looks old and has been decorated with some graffitti, but I found beauty in it’s randomness and the strength it gave the floral landscape.
